Blackout Technologies Limited (“Blackout” “we” or “us”) provides a mobile application (the “Platform”). For the purposes of data protection law, Blackout is a data processor and operates only on your instructions.
Privacy Policy
This policy sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us in relation to the Blackout Platform only. Please read the following carefully to understand our views and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it in relation to the Blackout Platform. The types of personal data we use
We may collect and use the following information about you:
- Information you give us. You may give us information about you by using the Platform or by corresponding with us by phone, e-mail or otherwise. The information you give us may include your name, address, email address, telephone number and office location.
- Information we collect about you. We automatically collect certain data from you, including your IP address or other unique device identifiers, mobile carrier, time zone setting, operating system and platform and information regarding your use of the Platform.
- Location data. We collect information about your location based on (i) derivations made from the IP address from which you connect, (ii) cell ID data based on links between your device and specific base stations; and (iii) (by accepting on your mobile operating system) the Global Positioning System of your device when the Platform is running in the foreground or background (together, “Location Data”). We may use this Location Data so that the Platform can function properly.
- Information from third parties. We may receive information about you from our customers if you use our Platform. Sensitive Personal Data and Device Permissions
The nature of the Platform means that we need to be able to process sensitive data. The Platform may request certain permissions that allow it to access your data as described below.
Please note that the revoking of such permissions might impact the proper functioning of the Platform.
- Location permission. Used for accessing your device location. The Platform may collect, use, and share user location Data in order to determine whether you are in a restricted zone. This includes using the precise GPS location of the device gathered through its location services as well as geo-fencing. No location data is stored and the Platform will not track your location in real-time.
- Screen Time Permission: We use Apple's Screen Time API to block apps and disconnect distractions. We don't gather any data about the users apps or usage.
By granting any of the permissions listed, you agree that the respective Personal Data may be processed (i.e., accessed to, modified or removed) by the Platform.
How we use your personal data
We will only use your personal data when data protection law allows us to. We will use your information in the following ways:
- As it is in our legitimate interests to ensure the proper functioning of our organisation, our staff's productivity and the security of our organisation's confidential information, we may use your information to:
- disable certain features (including the camera and certain applications) of your personal device within certain prescribed areas during the course of your employment;
- notify you about changes to the Platform's service;
- allow Blackout to provide you with user support;
- enforce our and Blackout's terms, conditions and policies; and

We may share your personal data with selected third parties in or outside your country, including our suppliers and subcontractors who help us run the Platform.
We may share your information with any member of our group, which means our subsidiaries, our ultimate holding company and its subsidiaries, in each case in or outside your country, for the purposes set out above (“how we use your personal data”).

Data retention
We will retain your information as follows and as required under any applicable laws: After you have terminated your use of the Blackout Platform, we may store your information in an aggregated and anonymised format. In the event that you do not use the Platform for a period of 5 years then we will treat your account as expired and your personal data may be deleted.
Your Legal rights
- Data rights. In certain circumstances, you have the right to access a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to rectify any personal data held about you that is inaccurate, to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you in a structured, commonly used and machine readable format, and to request the deletion of personal data held about you.
